The April book, a One Book, One Buncombe community-wide read, is Happy Land by Dolen Perkins-Valdez. A multigenerational novel set in the hills of western North Carolina, where Nikki uncovers a forgotten Black kingdom and long-buried family secrets. Inspired by true events, it’s a moving story about legacy, identity, and the power of memory.
The author will give a free talk at AB-Tech's Ferguson Auditorium on May 16th at 2PM.
