Enjoy some holiday tunes, jazz, and blues with Asheville Jazz Collective's 3-tet at Pack Memorial Library. Asheville Jazz Collective is an eclectic group of jazz and classically trained musicians creating fresh originals and tweaking modern jazz standards. Asheville Jazz Collective’s wide ranging musical pallet includes the compositions of Wayne Shorter, Pat Metheny, Herbie Hancock, Duke Ellington and Thelonious Monk.
About the Performers:
Alan Hall has been a professional drummer for over 45 years. He’s performed and/or recorded with international jazz artists Lee Konitz, Paul McCandless, Art Lande, Ed Simon, Geoffrey Keezer, Kenny Washington, Rebecca Parris, and Joyce Cooling.
He’s performed with Cirque Du Soliel, Teatro Zinzanni, Wicked S.F.
He’s toured in Europe, USA, and Canada with various artists and groups, playing various styles.
William Bares is an associate professor of music received. He his Ph.D in ethnomusicology from Harvard University under the supervision of Ingrid Monson, Quincy Jones Professor of African American Music. He taught at Harvard, Brown, Berklee College of Music and the New England Conservatory before becoming director of jazz studies at UNC Asheville. He has published articles in American Music, Jazz Research Journal, the Grove Dictionary of American Music, and Jazz and Culture, among others. An active pianist and music promoter in Asheville’s musical community, Bares coordinated “Ecomusicologies 2014: Dialogues”—a conference/festival that took place in Asheville in October 2014, and hosted the weekly Sunday Jazz Showcase at Asheville’s Isis Music Hall. His book, Jazz and the European Dream, is forthcoming on Routledge Press’s Transnational Studies in Jazz Series.
Daniel Lannucci is a versatile bassist from Asheville, North Carolina. He specializes in both upright and electric bass. A 2010 graduate of Western Carolina University with a Bachelor’s degree in Music, Daniel is fluent in a wide range of styles, including jazz, classical, funk, soul, hip-hop, R&B, and blues.
As a full-time freelance musician, he works regularly with a variety of regional bands and projects. Known for his adaptability, deep musicality, and solid groove, Daniel is equally comfortable in intimate jazz combos, soul and funk bands, or the pit of a musical theatre production. His thoughtful playing and collaborative approach make him a reliable and sought-after contributor in any musical setting.
