World Bat Appreciation Day: Exploring North Carolina’s Bats

Celebrate World Bat Appreciation Day with a fascinating look at one of nature’s most misunderstood and important animals. Join us for a special talk with Katherine Etchison, Wildlife Diversity Biologist with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. Katherine monitors bat populations across the state and conducts surveys for species identified as Species of Greatest Conservation Need in North Carolina’s Wildlife Action Plan.

In this engaging program, we’ll explore the remarkable world of bats, their unique biology, the vital roles they play in ecosystems, and the challenges they face today. With more than 1,400 species worldwide, bats provide essential services such as insect control and pollination that benefit both natural environments and human communities.

International Bat Appreciation Day, celebrated each year on April 17, was founded by Bat Conservation International to raise awareness about the importance of protecting these incredible creatures. Whether you’re a wildlife enthusiast or simply curious about the animals flying overhead at dusk, this program offers a chance to learn more and celebrate bats together. 🦇
