Do you love local history? Are you interested in preserving community stories and traditions? Maybe you have a background in journalism, photography, or community organizing?

The Leicester History Project needs your help!

The Leicester History Project is a community effort to collect and share local stories from Leicester, Sandy Mush, and French Broad townships so that they will be available for the public online and at Buncombe County Libraries for years to come!

To ensure the project’s success, we’ll need volunteers to help collect oral histories, scan historical photographs, and work alongside library staff to manage the project.

If you would like to join the effort to collect community stories, please join us for an oral history how-to training. At this meeting we'll learn best practices for oral history and discuss next steps for the Leicester History Project.

If you can’t make it to either of these meetings, no worries! You can still volunteer. For more information contact Buncombe County Special Collections (packnc@buncombenc.gov, 828-250-4740) or Leicester Branch Library Staff (leicesterlibrary@buncombenc.gov, 828-250-6480)
