Join Jesse Cerrato, co-owner of Resting Point Farms, for a lecture and workshop on how to grow your own gourmet mushrooms!
Jesse will cover many of the most common questions when it comes to growing mushrooms at home, such as:
- What are mushroom spores?
- How do you prep substrate for inoculation?
- What conditions are required to grow a bountiful harvest?
- How, exactly, do you harvest them, when it's time?
...and many more! Registration will be capped at 15 participants to allow for all questions answered, and for attendees to bring home their very own mini-kit.
About Jesse and Resting Point Farms:
Born and raised in Asheville, NC, Jesse Cerrato graduated from Florida Tech with a degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology. After returning to the mountains of WNC in 2017, he began his mycology apprenticeship under the tutelage of a couple that started a mushroom business on his family land. With the guidance of his mushroom mentors he learned the process of cultivating a variety of gourmet mushrooms indoors including several types of Oyster mushrooms and Lion's Mane. Through the application of sterile lab techniques, he gained an appreciation for the nuances of mushroom tissue culture, grain preparation/sterilization, and bulk substrate production. After several years of producing mushrooms for restaurants and farmers markets he shifted focus to low-tech farm applications like outdoor mushroom installations, mushroom logs, and liquid culture propagation. After much experimentation he expanded his knowledge base to additional gourmet cultivars like Chestnut mushrooms, Nameko, Enoki, and Shiitake. Educating the public on the challenges of mushroom cultivation is a personal passion of his and he hopes that you will gain deeper insight with beginner level approaches to growing your own mushrooms at home.
