Event Details

"China Unseen" is a community storytime with Chinese native photojournalist Shunyu Huang to explore her homeland through the lens of rich ethnicity and landscape.

Traveling deep in the Himalayas and the valleys along the Yangtze River with film cameras in her early 20s, she was welcomed into the homes of the Nuosu People (彝族), Akha people (哈尼族), Bai people (白族), and Tibetan people (藏族).

As a Han people (漢族), Shunyu grew up in a city with predominantly Han culture. Her worldview was changed after being an "outsider" in the regions where Han people are the minority.

In this intimate storytime, Shunyu shares her adventures with B/W photographs, and she hopes that these stories show us a China that's unseen.
