Program Description

Event Details

We invite you to participate in a Wikipedia Edit-a-thon in order to develop pages about people who are important to Western North Carolina and the rest of our region, but are often overlooked.

Our Edit-a-thon is focused on amplifying the stories and figures of under-represented Appalachian artists, writers, and other creators, particularly women in honor of Women's History Month, as well as people of color, LGBTQ individuals, and other disenfranchised communities.

What is an Edit-a-thon?

An Edit-a-thon is a community-organized event that aims to teach folks how to edit, update, and add articles on Wikipedia.

There are many ways to participate, and it's easier than you think! You can add sources to support information already on pages. You can add content to help develop pages that need more verifiable, credible information. You can even just create an account, learn some basics, and fix some typos!

Join us in person on Tuesday, March 24!
From noon to 4pm on March 24, we invite you to bring your own laptop to the Buncombe County Special Collections library and join us in person! You'll be able get help from librarians to learn how Wikipedia works, become a Wikipedia editor, and find research resources.
